Running a marathon is a lifetime goal for a lot of people. That, and climb Mount Everest. I think running is easier than freezing. But how do you go about doing that, if you aren’t a runner, or haven’t run long distances? Well, you need to get some training, but where. Online, of course.

There are lots of training guides online.

Everyone knows my favorite is The 100 Day Marathon Plan. Check out the blog post here. Another training guide is Marathon Training for Beginners. Here is another one for those who might not be up for the full 26.1 miles called Essential Guide to Training for your First Marathon or Half Marathon.

And for those not ready for the whole enchilada, we have Half Marathon Training for Beginners.

Now all these training guides can be used to get you to the finish line. But some of you aren’t interested in running farther, you just want to run faster. So check out Develop Killer Speed.  Or maybe you are interested in planning and hosting a race. Then you should take a look at The Ultimate Guide to Planning a 5k Run or Walk Fundraiser.

Running a marathon is a lifetime goal, and there is plenty of help out there. And you might think about joining a local runners club or YMCA. Or finding a local runners group in your area. There is definitely strength in numbers. So getting together with like minded people will make it easier to achieve your goal of running a marathon. And you can get lots of insider tips and hints about training as well.

I started running with a group from my gym. We coached and cheered and supported each other. Plus, we trained for races together, so you always had a training buddy if you wanted one. So think about that goal and run a marathon at least once in your lifetime. Twice if you want to better your finish time.
