Polar heart rate monitors are the leader in the industry. They have been making them the longest and their research and development is top notch.
If you are thinking about using a heart rate monitor to improve your fitness, then Polar is definitely the way to go.
They have 8 models to choose from in the entry level.
Polar F6
The Polar F6 is actually the best selling heart rate monitor watch on the market.

- Put in your vitals, adjust the strap around your chest and put the pedal to the metal. I burned 511 calories — 45% from fat. For 49:51 minutes of work, I spent 14:46 minutes in the 144-160 beats per minute range; with my heart rate topping out at 178 (93% of my maximum for the “moderate training zone”). My average heart rate was 151 for the duration (79% of my maximum). The alarm cued me when to step it up and also when to back it down so I could keep on a better training track.

- I really like this product. I almost went with the F6 but I decided to go with the F7 because of the strap monitor. I’d rather have one that I can change the battery rather then buying another strap. This watch comes with the F6 manual because it is the F6 watch. It’s very user friendly and easy to setup. I like using it and feel like the readings are accurate.

- Set up was easy with the manual in hand. Once you get the idea of how the menu works its a breeze ! Easy enough to be used by the ‘technically challenged’. Watch stores statistical data ( calories burned, avg./max heart rate per workout, length of workout, workout time in fat or fitness zone) which is a great way to monitor progress. Stores data for weeks.
Polar FT4
This is a relatively new model designed to track your fitness level and calories burned. If you have this watch, post a review in the comments.
Polar FS3c
This watch is also relatively new. It offers a brief training summary after your workout. And includes visual and audible alarms to notify you when your outside your target heart range. Leave us a review if you own this watch.
Polar FS2c
This is the earlier model to the FS3c.

- The FS2C Polar Heart Monitor is a fine piece of equipment. It has always picked up the heartbeat without having to wet the sensor and I like the feature that let’s you switch modes during exercise by moving the wrist unit close to the sensor unit. The only way to set the desired alarm range on this unit is manually so if you want to enter your age and have the range set automatically you’ll need to buy the FS3c.
Polar RS100

- A great device for fitness motivation for a newcomer. Before, when I was running and rowing it was difficult to be sure of progress, now I see that, for the same heart rate, I am, week on week, increasing my pace and distance. Highly recommended. On the downside: I was cautious and bought the entry level model. Now, I would probably go for a model with some of the extra features. The Polar personal trainer website is interesting, but not great.
Polar CS100
This is a handle-bar mounted heart rate monitor for cyclists.

- It took about 10 minutes to install, and worked the first time out, with one small adjustment to move the speed sensor closer to the spokes. The HR monitor, as expected with Polar, works perfectly. The computer functions are not “Apple like” intuitive, but after about 5 minutes you should be able to use most of the functionality. It does far more than most riders will really need, computing calories burned based on entry of the persons weight, average speed, lap feature to divide a ride, total mileage, etc. I am very happy with mine and glad I made the choice. I do wish they included the rubber o-rings the manual mentions as options (probably more paint friendly) to using the zip ties.
All of these watches come in men’s and women’s designs. And many can also be purchased with a chest strap from size XS to XXXL. So what is your favorite heart rate monitor watch and why do you love it? Leave us a review in the comments.
